GUIDE - Kismet's Guide to Summer Festival 08
Posted by Lord Kismet on Monday, August 04, 2008 (00:37:24) (34 reads)
Welcome to Summer Festival 08!
I've been working hard on these quests, this time around! Trying to get my Inn League Rep up, one of my two Reps left to go. Here's an overview of some of the things you can do during the festival. Note this is not an in depth guide just something to get you started.
- Fishing Barter Items, see my guide below! Tons of them shown below, Including Firework Launchers that are Reusable lawn items. Banners, Flowerbeds, Welcome Mats, Dances (two in each location), New Wall Patterns, Vendor consumable fireworks, and of course the Summer horse won by winning the race by Bree or by the Shire.
Plus Rep Quests for Inn League including: (Thanks to Lothi for the link)
- Inn League Rep start for 10,000 rep points to start. Plus 500 rep points, as this quest is daily repeatable, while the festival is running.
- Drinking 23 Unique Wine/beer/ale for 1,200 rep points and title "Inn League Sage of Fine Spirits".
- 11 Various Rep obtain a specific brew, from a specific Inn, within 1 hour.
How to get started?
- For fishing quest travel to Hobbiton & cross the Stone Bridge that is between Hobbiton & Bywater which leads you in the direction of the party tree / farming area, not the one cloest to the horse point, but further down toward bywater. There is a fishing NPC there that will start you off on a quest called "Stocking the Pond". It is my suggestion to NOT turn this in until you've gotten all the barter items you'd like. This is because once you turn it in you can only fish in 20 min blocks (you do want to turn it in down the road which i'll explain in a bit) and then you have to wait for the next daily reset for that area. Just don't turn in the quest and you can fish and get your barter items. Eventually though you'll want to turn it in so you can fish by Muddbottom (where the Fishing quest NPC starter is aka Neddie Grub). This is where you will hopefully catch a "Stary Flonder" which lets you get the Orange Fireworks Launcher.
Fish in each area:
Thorins: Amberjack & Silver Haddock
Celondim: Lullim & Celebhal
Bree: Drum & Golden Redfish
Muddbottom (Shire): Small Fish (Have not found a use for these) & Starry Flounder
What reward is where? (note music boxes don't seem to work!)
Celondim: Large Flowerbed, Vegetable Garden, Summer Welcome Mat, Festival of Endhin Music Box, Festival of Endhin Wall, Ceremonial Dress
Thorins: Yellow, Red, Purple Fireworks Launcher. Summerfest Music Box, Summerfest Wall, Ceremonial Dress
Bree: Herb Garden, Purple Flowerbox, Orange Flowerbox, Summerdays Music Box, Summerdays Wall, Ceremonial Dress
Muddbottom: Blue, Orange & Green Fireworks Launcher, Seasonal Banner, Lithe Days Wall
That should get ya going! Best of luck & turn your graphics down & hit those corners tight on the horse races!

Member fun 8-3-08 Plus Uru & Rift!
Posted by Lord Kismet on Sunday, August 03, 2008 (22:08:20) (27 reads)
Its amazing how much fun we've been having lately with all the changes and people jumping in for some fun!
First off Welcome back Ang! Good to see you around in game. Also got a shot of Lothi & HB while hunting with them in Annuminas. Lothi is Leader of the Ring of Destiny Team in LOTRO, just in case you all missed that on our join page. Congrats to the LM Team & our other members on Hitting 50! Nice work!
I've put together a small sample & if you've not been in LOTRO lately your missing out! With New additions with book 14 and our runs of Anniuminas, URU & RIFT plus Ring-lore quest which can be done on any char about lev 25+ for rep items. Plus you have the chance of getting a lev 45 quest item from the Ring-Lore quest!!! Some members have already gotten Wing of Ruined Dominance, Teeth of Gorthog, Goblin badge of Rank..etc.. I suggest to do on all your char each day!
After some climbing, you know me, lol. Found my way up onto the Arch at the entry way in Forochel. Helped Monde & Tellus up there as well & yes you will die if you fall off, lol!
Also had the privilege of running the rift with Immortal Legacy, what great teamwork. We made it quite a ways in! Thanks to Bandora & Floran for the invite, always a pleasure to hunt with such a great group.
Lucked out and got my Rift boots on a different run with The Royal Black Watch, Thanks for the invite Scrumptiously!

Book 14 Highlights
Posted by Lord Kismet on Sunday, August 03, 2008 (21:00:24) (26 reads)
Some nice new stuff added in Book 14.
We've gotten drops for new Dyes Orange, Burgandy, etc. Plus there is a new Preview system for checking how your equipment will look with a certain color through Control Clicking an item and selecting the color. Also Grand Master Journals give a huge boost on crit chances when crafting. I suggest some goblin town, as they are dropping from there.
Along with those additions there is also a new Mark system for helping with previously finished Epic lines, to encourage people to help others with their quest lines. There is new barter traders by the higher level reflecting pools. The lower level ones do not give marks, just the ones that really require a full group to get done. Plus you can barter for your set items right in the last lonely house. Be wary that some of the Fellowship members have shifting around in different locations in Rivendell.
Ran Uru to check out the new deeds for virtues & for titles, plus new coins that drop that can be traded in for various items at the Camp before you run toward URU & Carn dum. (sorry forget the name of it)
Continued along my Epic quest line on Kismet and was lucky enough to get past book 14.1 on first try. This instance is very hard due to the crowd control and consistant DPS'n of the boss. I suggest to go with a group that really knows its teamwork. Very much like a rift boss where spawns come in at certain times. Boss & 4 adds is tough. BTW if your looking for the entrance which i spent a good hour looking for it..its hidden behind the road by the dwarf camp in East Angmar.. and when say hidden i really mean it. Just goto the dwarf camp, come down the ramp on the ID/Dead Side..and go toward malenhad..its on your left just a few gallops from the bottom of the ramp..before you travel out of the IB/Dead area. You can even jump down on it from up by the Dwarf camp area. Congrats i just saved you about 600s looking for it deep in IB.
The next parts are some session play and they are very fun, i really liked the Ranger one. Plan to keep one of my char just so i can run in there from time to time..hehe.

Book 14 - Some Highlights from Release notes
Posted by Lord Kismet on Sunday, July 13, 2008 (15:48:55) (55 reads)
Hi all,
Though i'd take a glace at what might be coming on Book 14. Here are some of the things I found interesting:
Quick Highlights:
• Eregion: Journey to where the Elven Rings were forged!
• Epic Quest: The epic quest continues with world events that open up the adventure to every player across all servers!
• Moria Prelude Quests: Aid the Fellowship of the Ring as they prepare to leave Rivendell and make their way toward Mordor.
• Dungeons: The loot dropped in all instances and raids is being upgraded, and bosses and mobs are being adjusted to make for even better play experiences! Now is the time to prepare for the dangers that dwell in Moria!
• Animation Improvements: LOTRO continues to polish the experience!
Animations and sounds for each Minstrel skill using their equipped instrument (no longer just the Lute!)
• Monster play emote animations for Orc, Uruk, Spider and Warg
• New animations for 12 emotes – plus three new animated emotes!
Some other interesting changes:
• New collection-based fishing deeds are here! Be sure to catch'em all!
• The Dressing Room UI now supports dye color previewing!
• New dyes for clothing available: Orange, Grey, Burgundy, and Turquoise!
• You will now see "INTERRUPTED" over the head of the target of any attack which interrupts a skill warm-up or channeled skill that is in progress.
• Minstral: The instrument you have in the ranged slot will now modify the look and sound of your skills based on what instrument is used.
• All instances of "Misty Mountain Silver" have been renamed to "Ancient Silver." This includes ore deposits, jewellery items, crafting resources, Jeweller and Prospecting recipes. Ancient Silver can now be found in Forochel, Angmar and Sarnur.
• When crafting, a visible effect will be played whenever the crafter has a critical success.
• Farmer: New farming recipes are available from Novice and Expert farmhands! All of the new farming field recipes have the potential to produce rare ingredients useful to Scholars in the production of new dyes, and wall paints for player housing!
• New Scholar reputation recipes are available from the Elves of Rivendell reward vendor!
Advanced Refined Essence Recipe
Advanced Refined Salve Recipe
Advanced Pure Essence Recipe
Advanced Pure Salve Recipe
Improved Battle Lore Recipe
Improved Warding Lore Recipe
• Single-use recipes for the Scholar profession are now available in loot! These recipes allows Scholars to make "Crafting Journals" for the following professions: Jeweller, Metalworker, Tailor, Weaponsmith, and Woodworker. The journals can be used as optional ingredients in single-use recipes for the five professions, allowing crafters to gain a significant increase in the critical chance for these recipes.
• Fishing: The "50-pound Salmon" is now Bind on Acquire.
• Fishing: Crafted fishing poles were previously not set to "Bind on Equip." This has now been fixed, and all crafted fishing poles will now bind to the player upon equipping.
• The Outfitter is now selling new outfits for crafters. A little retail therapy never hurt anyone, so go check them out!
• The following Forochel trophies are no longer bind on acquire: Tundra Bear Trophy, Winter-tusk Trophy, Frost-antler Head Trophy, Sabretooth Trophy, Winter-worm Trophy, and Wolverine Trophy.
• Clicking on the ring on the quest tracker to open the quest journal to the correct quest now always expands the journal to show the selected quest.
-----SWEET----> You can now Ctrl+right-click on many of the item icons in the game to create an item link in your chat window instead of dragging them to the text entry field. This includes item icons in the Auction house, crafting panel, quest rewards, vendors / barter NPCs, and so on. You can also re-map this command, "Item Link To Chat", in the Key Mapping section of the Options Panel.
• Added a new option to enable notification of when someone nearby breaks the rooted, dazed or feared state of an opponent by attacking or damaging them. You will find this option in the Combat Options tab of the Options panel. The notices are displayed under the "Combat Event" chat filter.
• Added 3 more looting options: Roll/Pass with Free For All, Need/Greed with Free For All, and Master Looter with Free For All. If the item is below the current threshold, any person in the group can pick it up. If the item is at or above the threshold then the Loot Policy will be in effect for the item (Roll/Pass, Need/Greed, Master Looter). In addition, for all landscape chests the first player to open the chest will always be able to loot the items below the threshold. All items at or above the threshold will follow the normal Loot Policy.
• You are now informed that a player is not ready to be invited into a fellowship if they are in a loading state.
• Reputation horses and ponies can now be exchanged if you select the wrong one.
• Added a new music jukebox for player housing.
• Housing Hooks will now be brighter when they are selected so you can more easily tell which hook you have selected.
• We’ve added three new emotes and added animations to a few existing emotes!
Burp
Charge
Chuckle – new!
Clap
Congratulate
Fidget
Hail – new!
Poke
Shiver
Slap
Think
Whippitydo – new!!
Wince

Ahem
• The Icereave Mines are now a bit more solo-friendly; we removed a few patrollers, broke up some of the pulls, and spread them out a bit more.
• --- NICE --> You can now drag items from your inventory into the "Item Name" field of the "Auctions" tab on the Auction UI to populate it with the name of that item.
• New location added to the Inn League Keg!
Tons more of course, check out the download & full list below. Remember its still being tested so it is subject to change, but cool they are working on them!

LSN - Right Click Pet Skills!
Posted by Lord Kismet on Monday, June 30, 2008 (04:09:33) (83 reads)
- LSN (learn something new) Series.
Right Click the pet bar skills, on both the Loremaster & the Captain, your pet will auto use those skills. You don't have to watch if your pet is using his/her skills.
I've always found it a little distracting to be checking up on my Herald to see if her skills where back up, in the middle of watching all the cooldowns of my Captain attacks. Now no need to worry, just right click to turn on the auto skill use!
On a side note, as im sure i'll get this question, my herald "Lahesis" is named after one of three Greek Goddesses of Destiny.

LM Crew hits 40+!
Posted by Lord Kismet on Monday, June 30, 2008 (03:44:55) (81 reads)
The team pushed forward to hit past 40. Most of us have had our Loremaster's since open beta and they have been neglected.
What is the LM Team (aka the Loremaster Team)? Just a group of us got together to dust off our alts and go for 50.
The Loremaster class is amazing and with four LM at once attacking a group, they can be knocked out in no time. We did alot of running around in North Downs, Evendim & in the Misty Mountains. Also tested out some attacks such as the March of Ents which takes out a group of mobs with its AOE stomp attack. Notice Guru & the Ent stomping their foot together...lol.
After discovering that we need Shire Sweet-Leaf to rez people, i thought i'd farm some with Kismet since he's a GM farmer. I started with 100 fields and realized about 1/2 way through that is way too much, lol. Instead of getting around 400 for everyone. I ended up with enough for 2400 worth after getting tons & tons of crits on fields. I think we are set now,

Congrats to Members! 6-29-08
Posted by Lord Kismet on Monday, June 30, 2008 (02:43:16) (88 reads)
Congrats to Hesrai (aka Sharde) on reaching Grand Master Metalsmith!
Also congrats goes out to Tellus as she got a Recipe for this dagger as a drop and asked Kismet to make her one by suppling the materials & a beryl shard. It was her first attempt. She got a critical success & the "TellusBlade" is born!
Kismet also had quite a week with finishing his deed for +5% critical chance. A captian trait called "Expert attacks" which works well with Devastating Blow Skill. I have sadly been neglecting this Skill and used it the other day only to discover this deed.
Also after endless grinding of Rep items and sending them all from my alts to Kismet, he has gotten Kindred Reputation in all the major city areas!
Some Bonus Info! Was looking around to find out where to make the Fishing poles and discovered the patterns in Esteldin. I sent the word to Monde, one of our many Grand Master Woodworkers, to make some critical versions which give +5 Fishing!

Kismet's New Machine
Posted by Lord Kismet on Monday, June 23, 2008 (19:38:16) (89 reads)
As most members know i've been waiting around to get my new machine for over a year now. Apple has been doing some major upgrades to just about everything. All my graphics software is Mac based so I needed one that would run OSX & Windows at the same time.
My wait was very worth it as I went with the brand new Imac 24" with Nvidia 8800 card and wow is it amazing. Its good to note that i've been playing on Low Rez for over a year so its like a whole new game..I marvel at the amazing graphics at 1900x1200.
My first log in was in Forchel. I turned all my settings to max & anti-alias to 8x and thought i'd see if it was playable. Not only is it playable but it plays better then my previous machine did on low rez!
I've Uploaded FULL REZ PHOTOS, warning these are 1900x1200 photos...but they show how massively large the playable screen is.
This is by far the easiest install & setup. Was flawless, pulled all my info from my previous machine, started up bootcamp (free program that comes with it, that lets you use a "Apple/Mac" machine as "Native Intel machine"), installed XP, used Mac CD to install drivers and i was off and running! Was easier to install windows on Mac then on PC, rofl! Even my wireless network kicked it without a hitch!
So what was the cost? just over $2300. Its an all in one machine that looks like a Massive monitor or a big TV. Huge is a understatement compared to my previous machines, I had not looked at it in the store so it was quite a surprise how large the monitor is.
Here is the specs for you spec lovers:
- Imac 24" - 2 gig ram - Nvidia Gforce 8800 GS w/512mb - 750gb drive - Apple Wired Keyboard & I use my Logitech 8 button mouse.
